OKC Health Initiative

A group of OKC community leaders gathered earlier in the month to discuss creating a culture of wellness in Oklahoma County. There were over 50 participants, representing a varied group of organizations, including OBS and Schlegel’s Bikes. Each of the participants demonstrated an interest in improving our community’s health and well-being.

Here are the themes that emerged from this initial meeting:

  1. Desire for opportunities for partnerships & collaborations.

  2. Desire for networking.

  3. Desire for a common theme/message for sharing with our community.

  4. Need for valid outcomes measurement to track our work.

  5. Need for a long-term commitment in order to make the most impact and reach our goals.

One of the primary goals of this group is the creation of an inventory list of the key programs, facilities, activities, trainings, promotions, data etc. that is already in place that can be utilized to move OKC forward as a health community.

This initiative has already been started in Richmond Virginia. It is hoped that OKC can use their program as a guideline for implementing a healthy community program. If you want to see what they did, click: http://www.activerva.org/
